British-American soprano Shafali Jalota has been praised for her “stunning vocal technique and poised stage presence” (Opera Today). Shafali was a prizewinner in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, as well as a Finalist in the Camille Coloratura Awards, the Carolyn Bailey and Dominick Argento Vocal Competition, and the Flatpack Opera Competition. In 2020, she was a featured Young Artist with the Chautauqua Opera Company. Shafali is grateful for the support of the Bel Canto Vocal Scholarship Foundation and the Robertson Scholars Leadership Program.

Equally at home on the concert stage, Shafali made her recital debut at the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C. in February 2019. She debuted as a soloist with the Durham Symphony Orchestra in 2017 and the North Carolina Symphony in 2015. She was also a soprano soloist in Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music with the Duke Symphony Orchestra in 2016.

Passionate about early music, Shafali studied with Dame Emma Kirkby and Carolyn Sampson at the Dartington International Summer School and Festival, UK, in 2017. She was a featured soloist in Handel’s Samson under the baton of Maestro Laurence Cummings, alongside Carolyn Sampson and Andrew Watts. She also studied French Baroque repertoire with James Taylor at the International Baroque Institute at Longy. In February, Shafali performed in the North Carolina Historically Informed Performance (HIP) Festival.

Shafali is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she held the prestigious Robertson Scholarship and Vollmer Music Scholarship. At UNC, Shafali won the Concerto Competition and was a featured soloist with the UNC Symphony Orchestra, the UNC Baroque Ensemble, and Carolina Choir.
