Mansi Shah is a flutist and data scientist from Cary, North Carolina whose work explores the spaces where artistic rigor and technical curiosity collide. She believes data (like art!) imitates life, and is interested in the profoundly human stories behind the numbers and notes.

A dedicated musician and flutist, Mansi has performed in concert halls including Memorial Hall, Moeser Auditorium, Person Hall, and Nelson Mandela Auditorium at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Stewart Theatre at North Carolina State University. She has performed at Hanes Auditorium and Shirley Recital Hall at Salem College, The Hindu Society of North Carolina, and the Southwest Arts Center. Mansi has performed in orchestras and multifaceted ensembles, including the Metro Atlanta Philharmonic Orchestra (MAP) (principal flute), the Raleigh Civic Symphony, the University Chamber Players at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Charanga Carolina, the NC Governor’s School West Orchestra, and Khelaiya Garba Ensemble at the Hindu Society of North Carolina.

Mansi’s current projects bring together her analytical approaches and training as a data science professional, as well as her artistic vision as a musician and performer. In addition to her work as a private flute teacher, Mansi is the curator of Colors of Classical Music, a platform amplifying voices of color within the global classical music community. The page aims to inspire hope and serve as a resource towards building a more equitable, inclusive, and representative future in classical music. Mansi is currently collaborating with the Institute for Advanced Analytics (IAA) Alumni Board to lead the IAA’s Bias in Machine-Learning initiative to understand explicit and implicit biases and how they impact the work of data professionals. Mansi works for Primrose Schools Franchising Company as one of the founding members of the company’s analytics vertical, is a recipient of the American Statistical Association’s 2021 John J. Bartko Scholarship Award, and is currently a fellow with the bespoken mentorship program.

Mansi has performed in masterclasses with Julie Hobbs, Tadeu Coelho, Mark Sparks, and William Conable. Her significant teachers and mentors include Sindhu Ravishankar, Anne Dyke, Lindsay Leach-Sparks, Sarah Busman, Gina Izzo, and Brooks de Wetter-Smith. Mansi holds a B.S. in Environmental Science and a B.A. in Music from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an M.S. in Analytics from the Institute for Advanced Analytics at North Carolina State University.
